32  Mile Virgil Ware / Johnny Robinson Challenge Ride


Route Discription

The 32 mile ride starts at Kelly Ingram Park and Sixteen Street Baptist Church and proceeds to Abraham Woods Blvd toward the Civic Center past Arthur Shores Park,  picks up Fred Shuttlesworth  Blvd to Bethel Baptist Church and back toward Caraway Blvd toward Abraham Woods Blvd west toward Parker High School  passing by historic James Armstrong Barber Shop and then turn right at Parker High School toward the Knesses Cemetery and turn left toward Center Street  (Dynamite Hill) the birth home of Angela Davis then left on Center Street past Arthur Shores home down to Graymont Ave to Old Graymont Elementary School. The route takes you to the site of the killing of Virgil Ware who was riding his bike with his brother.  Then the ride goes to the south side of Birmingham up Highland Avenue past two Jewish Temples one that had 50 sticks of dynamite was found outside the building. Then over to 1st Avenue South to 19 Street North Old Loveman Department Store to Richard Arrington Blvd through the 4th Avenue Business District Sites and back to Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Kelly Ingram Park.
